Learn To Row

Our Learn to Row program is ready to go for 2018! The new format is a 2-3 hour ‘taste of rowing’ format where we show you the basics and then get you in a shell and rowing with some experienced rowers to steady the boat.

To register for these classes, please go to BCR’s Regatta Central page, open the ‘Learn-to-Row’ tab and select the class you wish to sign up for.

Our schedule is as follows (you only need to attend one class):

Saturday, April 28, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Saturday, May 12th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Saturday, June 2nd, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Saturday, June 30th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Saturday, July 28th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Fees: $25 (Note: if your Learn to Row class occurs between May 26 and September 3 you will need to pay the $7 entry fee when entering the Boulder Reservoir for your class)

In a Learn to Row class, you will be taught a brief primer on the fundamentals of rowing and then get on the water with several new and experienced rowers. At the end of the time, Coach Vee guarantees you will be racing against other boats. This course is intended to be just a ‘taste’ of rowing, and, should you be interested in continuing, you will be qualified to move straight into Novice rowing classes the following Tuesday.

All Learn to Row classes, especially the April class, will have a “Inclement Weather/ Indoor Rowing” component organized due to variable and unpredictable weather conditions.

Important: Prior to attending a Learn to Row class, all participants must complete two waivers, one of which is a swim waiver.  The ability to swim, as outlined in the swim waiver, is a requirement to take this class.

And while you’re at it, take a look at some of these great rowing videos…. what looks interesting? Rowing with a single oar?  Or rowing with two oars? Sweep (one oar) or Scull (two oars?)  Actually, we think you’ll want to try BOTH!
