Sculling Boat Rules
If smaller boats are more your style, consider sculling. These boats seat either one or two people and each person has two oars. Lessons for all skill levels are offered for BCR members and non-members on an on-going basis. The club has singles and doubles available for recreational and competitive sculling. In past years, club members have raced in the Masters Nationals, the Head of the Des Moines, and the Head of the Charles, among others.
Learn-To-Scull Classes (6 lessons) - $200
Over a two-week period, you'll get a solid introduction to sculling, including equipment, safety, stretching, and on-the-water basics. The classes are limited to 8 participants.
Upon successfully completing three of the six lessons and pending coach approval, you can scull independently for the duration of the two-week program. Sculling in pairs or with an experienced sculler is encouraged, but not required.
To use BCR equipment without coaching supervision beyond the two-week program, you must become a full member, sign the swimming and liability waivers, adhere to BCR boating rules, and follow signout procedures. For first-time club participants, your $200 Learn-To-Scull Classes fee applies toward your $350 annual club membership.
Learn-To-Scull-Better Classes (6 lessons) - $150
Refine your sculling technique with this two-week workshop, which is open to anyone with prior sculling experience and to those who have completed Learn-To-Scull Classes. Classes are limited to 10 participants. Bring your own boat or sign up early to reserve one of 8 BCR sculling seats. For first-time club participants, your $150 Learn-To-Scull-Better Classes fee applies toward your $350 annual club membership.
Learn-To-Scull Classes and Learn-To-Scull-Better Classes are offered independently, however, participants are encouraged to sign up for both.
