Matthew Berean

Matt started rowing in high school and continued at the University of Wisconsin. He has coached high school, collegiate and masters rowers for over a decade in Michigan, Boston and at the well known Craftsbury Sculling Center. Matt coached for BCR during the 2007 season and continues to train while balancing his time as a Certified Rolfer.


Matthew Daylor

Matt began rowing as a freshman at Middlebury College in Vermont where he went undefeated during his freshman year, rowed with a Chilean club while studying abroad and was co-captain of the men's team his senior year. He also medaled in the double sculls and the varsity four at the 2006 Lanier Sprints in Georgia. Most recently, Matt has coached novice and masters scullers at Lincoln Maritime Center in Hingham, Massachusetts, following a year as the assistant coach for Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA. Previously, Matt was the assistant coach at Middlebury College, heading up their men's and women's novice programs. Matt ran his first triathlon last summer, began teaching this spring and is in the application process to become a Foreign Service Officer.


Fran O'Rourke

Fran O'Rourke has a combined 10 years rowing and coaching experience in Division I college athletics. Most recently she spent four years as an Assistant Coach at Indiana University, in Bloomington, where she had a profound impact on the Hoosier program. This past season, O'Rourke's second varsity four won Indiana's first ever Big Ten medal in a varsity event, with a third place finish. Fran was responsible for all aspects of the novice program and saw beginning athletes through to Division I, Big Ten varsity competition. Prior to joining the IU program in August 2004, O'Rourke spent two seasons as the women's intern rowing coach at her alma mater, Cornell University. As an athlete at Cornell, O'Rourke led the first varsity four through an undefeated season her sophomore year and continued to bring in top finishes with her crew through her senior year when she was voted co-captain of the Cornell team. Fran brings experience plus unbridled enthusiasm to her coaching which comes from her deep love of rowing.


Jim Preston

Jim is a masters sculler and high school rowing coach from Tampa, Florida. He has high school, college, and masters sweep and sculling experience, and has trained annually for 7 years with the All American Rowing Camp under Jim Dietz and Mark Wilson. Jim has competed in many sculling events, including Head of the Charles, Head of the Hooch, FISA World Masters Regatta and provides sculling technique instruction as part of his coaching duties. In addition to coaching at Tampa Preparatory School for the past two years, Jim has provided coaching for the Stewards Foundation, a non-profit community rowing program in Tampa, and at various learn-to-row programs and views coaching opportunities as a way to give back to our sport.


Lauren Rubini

Lauren Rubini, current Head Girls Coach for Colorado Junior Crew, began rowing on the east coast in 7th grade. She raced for her local high school, T.C. Williams, in Alexandria, VA as well as in the Olympic Festival and Junior Worlds. She attended Boston University on a full athletic scholarship through rowing. Lauren has raced in both sweep and sculling and has coached at all levels. She currently is a teacher in the Boulder Valley School District and has coached for BCR sweep programs in the past. Brittany Sever

Brittany is one of the Learn to Row and Novice rowing coaches for Boulder Community Rowing. Her rowing career started at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where she rowed competitively for 4 years. In addition to racing, Brittany was the membership coordinator, regatta chair, treasurer, novice coach and substitute coxswain. After returning to her hometown of Chicago, she rowed for the Lincoln Park Boat Club and raced with the women's competitive program, was the women's team captain and the club rowing director. As director Brittany oversaw the sweep, sculling and learn to row programs. Brittany currently works for Level 3 Communications in Broomfield and resides in the Denver Highlands.


Leslie Smith

Leslie is returning to Boulder for a second summer of coaching with BCR, where she was extremely well liked as a person and as a coach during her first season here. Her background includes serving as assistant coach for Hobart and William Smith Colleges (Geneva, NY), graduate assistant coach for Southern Methodist University (Dallas, Tx), as well as many summers working with the Edmonton Rowing Club (Alberta, Canada). Her coaching experience is broad and includes 1st day novice scullers to seasoned veterans of all ages. As an athlete, Leslie has competed on the club, varsity, provincial and national levels. While a junior rower she focused on small sculling boats, earning three seats in the 2001 Canada Summer Games team for Alberta. Smith was recruited to the University of Iowa out of high school where she helped earn the Hawkeyes a 9th place team finish in the NCAA's. As a member of the SMU Mustangs she earned a seat in the varsity boat all three years, including being voted team captain her senior year.


Hansen Wendlandt

Hansen Wendlandt, current Head Boys Coach Colorado Junior Crew, former University of Colorado Men's Head Coach, was the 2006 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Coach of the Year, after leading the CU Varsity 8 to the school's first Conference Championship, and the JV to a silver medal. In that post-season, he coached the CU men to a bronze medal at the non-scholarship collegiate championships (Dad Vail's), and to a berth at the IRA National Championship-only the 5th school from the west ever invited. Before coming to CU, Hansen coached at MIT and Hillsborough High School (Tampa), and rowed as a pre-elite lightweight at Riverside Boat Club, at Oxford University, and for various other clubs in America. Away from crew, Hansen serves as Youth Pastor and Director of Christian Education at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Email Hansen at hwendlandt@hotmail.com.
